Vessels

2018 start with a new favorite project.
Experimenting with sturdy objects made from fabric is much fun. Using everything my sewig machine accepts, playing with every technique there is and still keeping my purpose in sight makes for creative playground without borders.

Mangroves from the Water

2017: Artists working to save the natural environment of the local mangroves

Mangroves constitute a fascinating habitat interface between the terrestrial and the marine environment located in the zone between the high tide and the low tide. They act as a bridge between the ecosystems found on land and in the sea, providing a safe haven for many organisms. They are one of the most productive and diverse wetlands on earth, yet these unique coastal forests are one of the most threatened habitats in the world. The rate of loss of mangrove forests is 3 – 4 times higher than that of terrestrial forests! Since 1980, there has been a loss of about 20% of mangrove forests in the world.

Hyperbolic Forest

Festival of the Mind 2016 – University of Sheffield

The installation brings together pieces of knitting and crochet from all over the world. The Hyperbolic Forest is a tactile, atmospheric display that visualises the geometry of hyperbolic surfaces, a mathematical theory that changed the way we think about space.

A surface is hyperbolic when (…) it curves in two different directions around each of its points.

(Information from the festival programme. Initiated by Kerry Rose (artist) and Dr. Madeleine Jotz Lean (School of Mathematics and Statistics – University of Sheffield)
